Club history 2019-current day

2019

Men’s football

The club found their home on top of the ladder at the end of the home and away season for the first time in the 2019 SFNL Division 4 competition. Following their pattern of 2s, our Senior men’s team made their way to their second consecutive Grand Final against South Yarra in 2019. Unfortunately, a tough and closely fought match against the Lions did not result in silverware for the lightning. Lyndhurst 05.06.36 | South Yarra 07.06.48

The Reserves finished 3rd with 12 wins and 6 losses, a battle to the grand final resulted in a strong Grand Final against the Frankston Dolphins. Unfortunately, neither of the Lyndhurst men’s sides could bring home the silverware in 2019, the Dolphins proving too strong for our boys.

Women’s football

A dearth of numbers in our women’s football team unfortunately forced Lyndhurst to forfeit their matches, ending a disappointing season for the Lightning. A highlight of the 2019 season for our women’s football department was participating in the SFNL 2019 Pride round match against Bentleigh.

2020

In light of the COVID-19 pandemic and significantly increased number of positive COVID-19 cases recorded in Melbourne, it had become apparent that the health and safety risks simply became too great to conduct any senior contact sporting competition in 2020.

The SFNL Board met and resolved that the 2020 Men’s Senior, Reserve and Thirds Grade football competitions, as well as the Senior Woman’s football competition, be cancelled.

2021

Men’s football

The club started the season strong and ended it with the seniors and reserves 2nd on the ladder. After state government announcements regarding the COVID-19 pandemic, the league was left with no alternative but to cancel the balance of the 2021 season. It was a very disappointing outcome from what had been another frustrating year.
